I’m taking part in Movember again this year. Why, you ask? Why not, I say. I get to grow a moustache, help change the face of men’s health, and annoy my wife with my awesome facial hair. That’s why. Well actually, there is another reason. I’m getting close to the mandatory prostate exam age and, well I think my “official” Movember reason says it best:

“I hope the Movember money is used to build a diagnostic tool that doesn’t involve sticking things where the sun doesn’t shine. Like a Star Trek Tricorder.”

We’re back in the basement and in full form after a relaxing break. (Well, Ada and DD had a nice break. Chris joined us when he could.) Thanks lovely customers for allowing us time away from our email and phones.

We took a very long driving trip as well as a staycation. Along the ways, we saw how Saturday MP fit in the spectrum of industry. If you remember back to social studies class, you learned the term cottage industry. We basement-dwellers have taken it one step further and are using our primary residence as the headquarters of our multi-dollar corporation.

Adorable Daughter came up with a new monetary term: quadillon dollars. I wonder how many zeros that has! Brilliant.

When music videos first came out, I think music* stars thought this would be a clever way to market their music – you know, appeal to the visual learners.  I don’t think they thought it would essentially quadruple their workload – learning ‘acting’ parts/dance moves – not to mention hiring of directors, writers, models, dancers.

While we don’t make any music videos at Saturday MP, I can’t help but relate to this model and blame the Internet for making us more work.  Sure, we sell Mini-Compressor on the Internet.  We market on the Internet.  We look up movie times on the Internet.  We love the Internet.  It has made us money, but it has made us more work too.

There’s a barber shop in our neighbourhood.  He’s recently cut his hours.  I’ve never met him before but I imagine he’s near retirement and would like to spend his hard earned money on trips and precious time with the grandkids.  I kinda imagine him to be like the Wealthy Barber.  Anyway.  He cut his hours.  He’s only open limited hours 4 days a week.  Ironically, his shop is next to a former bank.  I got a few laughs when I told Chris it would be funny if we could get pictures of the new barber’s hours next to the bank’s hours.
